The Autoclave Method of Waste Disposal

Our autoclave processing facility is state-of-the-art for treating regulated medical waste.

This method of sterilization is effective for most types of regulated medical waste, except for chemotherapy wastes, which is incinerated.

Radioactive Materials Detection System

As soon as your waste is unloaded, it is checked by the radioactive materials detection system.  Waste identified as chemo or pathological is incinerated.

Total Sterilization of Waste

The remaining sealed bags of waste are put in carts with autoclave liners.  The filled carts move on tracks leading to the autoclave.  Inside the autoclave, the carts are exposed to steam for sufficient temperature, pressure, and time periods to sterilize the waste.  Chart recorders document this procedure.  Micro-organism kill tests are performed and all results are retained.

 All Waste is Completely Shredded

Midwest Waste Services will shred your autoclaved waste upon request.  After sterilization, the carts exit the autoclave and are mechanically lifted and dumped into a hopper, feeding the shredder.  The sterile, shredded waste goes directly from the closed auger system to a fully-enclosed, self-contained compactor.  Although not considered regulated waste at this point, it is sent to a licensed landfill in Michigan.

Certificates of Destruction

With Midwest Waste Services, you will never give your regulated waste a second thought.  Certificates of destruction are provided upon request to all our customers.
